DIY Dad is, as his name suggests, something of a wizard at DIY.
He has expertly started renovations on at least 5 of the houses he owns and/or he has owned..and the only reason why I can’t say 6 houses is because I was too young at the time to take note.
For all his wizardry, I suspect (although don’t quote me) that my house will actually be finished before any of his are.
I must add that this is through no fault of his own, but rather an unfortunate combination of the following:
- a passion for doing DIY
- his expert DIY abilities being in demand all over the family (how many people travel around the world and prune hedges on three continents?)
- the prolific need for many things to have DIY applied to
- his ability to find new projects to become passionate about (i.e. the spiral wine cellar I have almost convinced him he wants to build for me)

DIY Dad as seen in his native habitat
Unfortunately, I am living proof that inate DIY skillz are not hereditary.
But you know what they say:
Some people are born with DIY, some people achieve DIY (through interest and or neccessity) and some people have DIY thrust upon them (thanks to their unwillingness to scrimp anywhere else).
I think I am a combination of B and C.
