Supporting characters: RIP Jumper

In every great quest, there is always a tale of woe or tragedy that clutches at our heart strings and has us sobbing into our popcorn; and this housie tale is no different.

It seems we need a moment’s silence to remember and pay tribute to one of the great contributors to the DIY / Painting / Moving activities herein.

This contributors whose time was tragically cut short due to an unexpected, unplanned and unwanted (by some) meeting with a paint covered drop cloth:

Scarred from his time amongst the DIY trenches...
Scarred from his time amongst the DIY trenches...

[I would like to point out, here and now, jumper is not my treasured possessions; but rather one of the two most treasured items in a key supporting character’s wardrobe; who cannot be named, shamed or made to change his wardrobe choices.]

Born of the great acrylic sheep, sometime early in the 90’s; Jumper came into (one of) our lives having first accompanied a good friend in his yoof-ful exploits pre university / post secondary school.

The responsibility of owning Jumper was handed on, like the olympic torch, to the aforesaid nameless, shameless and changeless helper in the very early mid 90’s and Jumper has been the superhero regalia and outfit of choice since then.

If Superman wore a black acrylic, overwashed, nobbled, much mended (with the wrong coloured thread) and much re-mended uniform, jumper would be it.

It might be hard for anyone who owns more than 10 items of clothing to imagine, but in apparel stature Jumper was like your best ever favourite dress and your childhood snuggle/security blanket all rolled into one…for someone.

No evening’s entertainment, no night out was complete…without jumper. Jumper has been granted entry into every place – from high class establishments to the gutters of whatever suburb was nearest.

Jumper has been an ever present part of our lives for at least 14+ years and the ripple effect of Jumper’s loss will no doubt travel far and wide:

I could not have done any better at ruining this if someone had paid me to.
I could not have done any better at ruining this if someone had paid me to.

…even though there is another black acrylic, overwashed, nobbled, much mended jumper twin lurking in the aforesaid nameless, shameless and changeless one’s wardrobe…
