Something thrifty: two beers, one stone

This frugal twofer trick was taught to me by the Divine Mrs M (nee T) and is the reason so many of my plants are so lush.

What you need…

Are empty beer bottles (or cans) or even empty milk bottles. You don’t need to go out specially looking for empties of any sort, just as you finish the beer (or milk), put the bottles aside before you put them in the recycling bin:

Two dead marines, about to be used on the garden

What you do next…

Then what you need to do, when you next have a second, is to fill them with water and swill the water around inside them. Then pour the water out onto your plants.

That’s all!

The dregs of the beer (or milk) plus water make a really good fertiliser. And it’s pretty easy to fill, swish and pour over your plant pots, indoor plants and selected small outdoor plants before you chuck the empties in the bin.

You get a twofer deal, because you should really rinse the bottles before you recycle and you get to use the rinse water on your plants 😀

Technically, I think it’s a threefer deal, since you bought the beer (or milk) to drink in the first place! Truly awesome re-use, recycle tip!
